it had started to die down as the party neared its end. he'd been glancing at her all night, but hadn't had the chance to say anything. in fact, he hadn't said much to her since they'd all returned to the conservatory. she looked lovely tonight; her dress bringing out the color in her eyes. when she'd gotten up and went to the open rooftop garden, landon saw his chance. excusing himself from the group he was with, he slipped out the doors after her. she was standing by the parapet, looking out over fifth street. the lights of the city illuminated her features and she looked almost heavenly. moving to stand beside her, he looked where she was looking. "you look beautiful tonight, celeste."

The party had come and gone as quickly asit started, but in a way Celeste was glad. While she liked coming to functions that involved a good majority of the school, she still didn't feel comfortable sometimes, which was funny coming from someone that had performed in front of many, many people before. But it was different when you were mingling with them and felt clausterphobic in a way. However, she had made it through the night and now needed some air as she headed up to the rooftop garden. Standing there, overlooking fifth street, she saw how beautiful the city looked when it was all lit up and realized that she would never get bored with that. It was the city that never slept and it lived up to its reputation unabashedly. As she stood there, she heard a voice behind her and jumped a little, startled that someone had followed her out here, but when she turned to see who it was, she smiled. Landon was someone that she had worked with for a couple years now and she had come to respect him greatly for how much he fought for students...and raised his son on his own. Celeste had thought on more than one occasion that he was handsome and really liked how warm and comforting his brown eyes were. "Oh...thank you Landon," she said, genuinely touched that he had noticed her looks. "You look really nice too. Did you have a nice time?" Celeste felt nervous for the first time in a long time, feeling butterflies swirling around her stomach. Why did he have this effect on her?

landon could tell something was on celeste's mind. she was more quiet than usual. it had been a long summer of being apart, so really he didn't know what was going on. and it wasn't like him to pry, so he figured he would leave well enough alone. instead, he smiled at the way the lights glittered off her eyes. as beautiful as ever. "i did. i have to admit, i'm really glad to be back." landon's summer had been uneventful, just soccer practice for his son. "did you have a good time?"

While Celeste had spent the summer apart from Landon, he was still as charming as she remembered him being. She had thought about him from time to time during the summer because she would see someone that reminded her of him or hear someone's voice that sounded like his, causing her to stop and look around. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that there could be something there, a soft spot for Landon that had developed over the year is what she chalked it up to, but now that she was seeing him in person...it was much more than that. She smiled when he admitted that he was glad to be back for school, knowing that summer vacations were sometimes long and uneventful for teachers as most of their students were at home for the holiday. "I did," she replied as he asked if she'd had a good time. "It's always nice to come back after a long summer and see everyone again, especially those you haven't seen in a while. Never gets old to see my favorite students and welcome the new batch of freshmen that show promising talent." Celeste couldn't wait to get to work with the freshmen class and see what they had to offer in voice talent. "How was your summer off?" she asked, looking at him with a little hint of a smile.

he knew exactly what celeste was talking about when she mentioned how good it was to come back after a long summer. "my summer was pretty quiet," he said, turning to face her. "joaquin had summer soccer, but that was all." the nice thing about living outside of manhattan was you could still have the city life, but at the same time, have some of the other pleasures too. staten island was a pretty suburban area, which was really nice for raising his son.

Every summer had been the same since Celeste had started working for the school. She usually did something for Broadway, either behind the scenes coaching or on stage if they gave her a small run that didn't last longer than a couple weeks before she had to get back to teaching. Her first true love was teaching though and she was happy to be back, especially since she got to be around Landon. She smiled as he mentioned his son having summer soccer, knowing that Joaquin was about five or six now and very active in sports. "I bet he's getting pretty good now and can show some pretty good moves...how many summers has he done this?" she asked, smiling at him genuinely. Landon was a great father and she knew that losing his son's mother had been hard on him because he was now a single parent, but she gave him so much credit for picking up the pieces for his son and making sure that he had a normal life. Celeste didn't have any children of her own since she never really had a serious enough relationship to consider settling down with children, but it wasn't something that she didn't want to rule out for her life either.

"just his second summer," landon said, smiling. he loved that celeste showed interest in his and his son's lives, even if she was faking it.""he still has about two games left if you ever wanted to come to one." landon had often considered asking celeste on a date, but always decided against it because he didn't know how she would react. he didn't want to make her uncomfortable, if dating a coworker wasn't something she would do.

One of the great things about talking with Landon was that Celeste could tell that he loved his son and that he was interested in his life, unlike a lot of fathers now days that left all of that to the mothers. Landon was all that little boy had now that his other had passed away, so she knew that he had to be there in his life. When he invited her to one of his son's last remaining games of the summer, she smiled and nodded. "I'd love to come," she said, genuinely happy that he had invited her to be a part of his life with his son. She had been thinking of talking with him more over the summer, but never got up the courage to do so because of all he had been through with his late wife and raising his son on his own. Celeste was never one to intrude. "Just let me know the day and what time to be there and I'll come for sure. Also...what the team color is so I don't show up wearing the wrong one and it be their rival or something like that." She laughed and knew it sounded silly, but she didn't want to embarrass Landon or his son.
