so tell us about yourself.
i’m spencer avery, and i’m twenty years old. i grew up in englewood, which is like, half an hour that way *points west*, which is sort of all sorts of awesome because i was always able to come out to the city when i was still in high school to see bands and stuff. it’s also really nice now because although i live in manhattan, i’m still able to go home and see my family.
tell us about your parents.
i love my parents, i really do, and i feel like that may not be something you hear very often any more, but i don’t know, we’ve always been a really close family. anyways, my dad lived in greenwich village in the city for a good part of his younger years where he was apart of the hippie movement or whatever it was that was going on, and that’s actually where he met my mom, who had left her home in england for something new. you know, free spirits and all that shit. they eventually moved back to englewood, where dad is from, once they got serious and then had my younger sister and me. i don’t know if any of that is relevant, but it’s a fun story to tell.
why mcoa?
i’ve always just been into music. i learned how to play the guitar when i was young, mom used to joked that it was dad vicariously reliving through me, and it just sprouted from there. i even had that awkward high school band that i really don’t like to talk about even though it looked good on my application. in the end, i chose mcoa simply because it’s one of the best schools to attend for the arts, which in the long wrong seems like the best choice to me. if i can learn to refine my craft in a city i love, then why not.
what do you like to do in your spare time?
i just like to do a lot of nothing. everything’s constantly so busy with school, i usually just kinda do my own thing, wither it’s sitting around the apartment watching something random on netflix, or walking around a park just because i can. and if i get enough time, i like to try to head home and recharge before returning to the city. actually, i don’t know if i should really be telling you this because i’m not sure how legal it is, but i like to go up to the roof of the building i live in and just relax and do whatever up there, play my guitar, chat with friends, i’ve even used that space to study for exams. you kinda forget that you’re in the city up there.
if you were stuck on a deserted island, what five items would you want to have with you?
a cell phone, so i could still talk to people and call for help. my guitar, so i could stay amused. a knife or no, a spear, so i could hunt things. someone to pass the time with, again so i don't go stir crazy. and finally, a boat so i could get off the godforsaken island. and i don't care if that's cheating, you never said that was against the rules.
