my name is sierra lillian kennedy, but i just go by sierra. i'm twenty years old and i grew up on the upper east side. my home is on fifth, and i have a bedroom view of central park. i attended the dalton school for my education and while most of the students there attend ivy league schools such as yale and princeton, i was also incredibly focused on not only my education, but my singing and dancing as well. it is only fitting that following graduation i would attend the manhattan conservatory of the arts. my mother and father spent a lot of money on making sure i had what it takes to get in, even though my father inherited his father's business (like my older brother will) and my mother is a trust fund baby and has never worked a day in her life. they support me in all my crazy endeavors.
who inspires you?
oh my goodness, there are so many people who inspire me. lets start with sarah brightman. she is the world's best selling soprano, and apparently is a sweetheart to boot. i mean, she had the greatest musical ever written just for her! along with the great sarah, i would say sandra joseph also inspires me. she is currently the longest running christine in the longest running musical in broadway history. she played the role for ten years on broadway and all across the country. i aspire to beat her record someday. that is what i want to do.
do you have any strange phobias?
well i wouldn't consider it a strange phobia, but i hate bugs. bugs of any kind. flies, beetles... oh my gosh, especially spiders. gross. as for strange phobias, i have to admit i'm terrified of ladders. not of heights, just ladders in general. i don't get close to them if i can avoid it. there's no trauma attached, so that's what makes it strange. i'm afraid of falling of them, of them falling on me, and of the bad luck you'll supposedly get if you walk under one.
would you say you're part of a clique?
now? no. but in the past, i definitely was. the private school scene of the upper east side is incredibly cliquey. i would be lying if i said i wasn't a complete and total bitch in high school. i was that girl, the queen bee. now though, in a place like mcoa, things are different, much more evened out. nobody is more popular than anybody else. its very competitive, but not in a bad way. i'm still considered the queen bee on the upper east side.
what's your favorite childhood memory?
in 1997, my mother and father took me to see the broadway revival of annie. i can remember it so clearly, seeing a theatre for the first time. even before the show began i was itching to be on stage. and when the final curtain fell, i knew that was where i belonged. after that, i begged and begged and begged for my parents to let me take dance classes and voice lessons. they must have known how passionate i was about it, because they let me. now, i'm capable of dancing en pointe, and have a vocal range of over three octaves.
