hey there! i'm kathleen marie sullivan, but i think that sounds like an old lady's name, so i usually stick with kathy or katie. i was born on june second nineteen ninety-three to amos and annie sullivan in brooklyn. my dad's irish-american (at least irish enough to consider st.paddy's day anything other than an excuse for a drinking binge) but my mom's actually french, or at least half. i have a fourteen year old brother named max whose a pain in the butt most of the time, but i still love him to death!
how did you get into dance in the first place?
my mom was actually a ballet dancer herself when she was younger. she started young and decided she wanted to pursue it as a career. she did a few shows here and there, but then she met my dad and got knocked up so... the rest is history! when she had me, she wanted to instill the same love for ballet she had. i started training in a studio when i was five or six. thankfully, i inherited her talent and sorta liked it. i guess as a kid i sort of thought of it as a game or something extracurricular, but when i entered high school it became my life. i decided to become a dancer then and there. i haven't regretted my decision.
where do you see yourself in ten years?
definitely as a prima ballerina... somewhere. i would've liked to already have lots of experience in different troupes or companies, as well as to perform in france, or russia, or even las vegas; somewhere I know work is good for a ballet dancer. in the ballet world, you have to accomplish your goals quickly, because most ballet dancers have a short career. when you get into your forties, you should already be retired. it's a tough world... its like being in an abusive relationship with someone you still love; you take the punches, but you never stop loving.
what of your other interests/hobbies?
as much as i live for ballet and dancing, its comforting sometimes to just walk away from it for a bit. i also dabble in interpretive dance to further my ballet training. its the absolute opposite of the rigid, structured style of ballet, but i guess that's what endears me to it. it allows me to break free and express my emotion. and also, since ballet focuses on specific points of the body, interpretive helps me relieve some of the pain and tension from my body. but, oh, you said OTHER interests? Uh, i love yoga and meditation. it helps me clear my mind for a while. you can't go wrong with a good book and some tea, right? i do some occasional crocheting or knitting... gah, i probably sound like a boring noob. i get pissed when someone calls me kathleen, but just look at my interests... i'm already an old lady. oh well, suck on it.
if your friends were to describe you in five words, what would they be?
quirky, funny, sweet, witty, patient.
