so tell us about yourself
name's liam dawson, but mostly i just answer to liam. i grew up in brooklyn and went to a public high school, but don't let that fool you. i'm just as slick and suave as any of the prep school assholes out there, but i chose to have a little more class. i got into the conservatory on scholarship because of my directorial debut in a documentary i shot and edited myself when i was a senior in high school. i'm serious about my future and my desire to someday be a great director and producer in the industry and not end up like my dead-beat brother with five kids and no job.
why choose art school instead of a real world job?
why is the sky blue? do you sit there and question that? okay, okay so maybe you do. i wanted to come to a school that would help me flesh out my dream of directing films that are oscar worthy someday. i like the thrill of shooting a new movie and being on location, wherever that may be, and this school allowed me to pursue that dream without any hesitation. plus, they gave me a scholarship i couldn't turn down.
who is your inspiration?
all the greats. james cameron, jerry bruckheimer, and martin scorsese to name a few of the newer producers and directors. they have put out some great films in the past and i aspire to do the same in the future. imagination is dying. i intend to revive it with my vision.
what's your family like?
if you wanna really know, i can tell you. dad is a deadbeat and hasn't shown up since i was eight. i'm fairly certain i have several half-siblings running around new york and other parts of the country. my brother is twenty-six and has five kids with three different baby mamas and has no job to support any of them. but my mom, now she's the saint. she raised me and my brother with a single parent's income and taught us right from wrong. dunno where my brother lost that lesson, but he definitely didn't come from mom's side of the family on that.
list some of your favorite movies for the cinematography...
titanic, avatar, transformers, all the harry potter films, pirates of the caribbean, star wars, and the king's speech are what i can think of off the top of my head that were all shot beautifully in different ways. yes, i said titanic. do not judge me. a ship hitting an iceburg and sinking looks cool, however tragic it was in real life.
