my name is celeste bennett. i was born and raised in manhattan on the upper east side with my parents and older brother. from the time i was a child, i knew i had two passions in life: singing and teaching others to sing. by the time i was seven, i was in voice lessons and loved every moment of it. i attended the tish school of the arts before deciding that performing became my second love and teaching usurped it's place as my first. since then, i joined the staff at mcoa and have been here ever since.
would you take a performing role if you were offered one?
as cliche as it sounds, i never say never. if the right role came along and offered me stability, then i might be one to take it and continue giving voice lessons on the side when i had time. but as of now, the role has not yet come along to tempt me enough.
do you play favorites among your students?
however much i try not to, there are those that stand out more to me as performers. they are the ones that were born to be on that stage and deserve it with all the hard work they have dedicated to that. but mostly, i don't show my favoritism in the classroom nor do i make it widely known if i favor a student and give them extra lessons or something like that.
would you ever date a co-worker?
absolutely not! well, maybe...it depends on the guy and if he was the right kind of person that would keep our professional and personal lives separate. there have been some messy breakups in the staff before and nobody likes those since it makes for the conference room and teachers' lounge to be very tense. but no such guy has come along yet, so i don't believe it'll happen.
what is your favorite broadway play?
surely you jest! that is like making me pick a favorite child, if i had any. i love all the shows like rent, phantom of the opera, love never dies, west side story, and many, many more that i can't name off the top of my head right now.
