i was born on august 29th, 1990 in chicago, illinois. my parents are allan and maria granger, and they're both elementary school teachers. i'm an only child, unfortunately, though i've always wanted a sibling. my childhood was pretty standard. i didn't get into performing until i was in high school, so around age 14. i kind of stumbled into it by accident when the music teacher discovered me singing in the hallways. i never really thought about pursuing it seriously until i was a senior in high school. i graduated in 2010 and now i'm a junior at the conservatory.
how did you end up here?
it was between new york and los angeles at the time and ultimately i had to go with my gut because i felt like there were so many opportunities for me out here than there were there. also i've been to new york a few times for vacations, so i love the area and the feeling it gives me. and once i made the decision to come here then it was either mcoa, julliard, or nyu. i felt this mcoa had the best fit.
which are you more passionate about: acting or singing?
acting, without question, though music will always be a big part of my life considering i stumbled into that first. but acting gives me a better chance to step into the shoes of other people. not that i don't love my own life, but there are things i'll never experience whether it's because they're outdated or i'll just never be in the position to actually experience it.
do you have a goal while at, or after attending, mcoa?
definitely not while i'm actually here. while i'm at the conservatory, i want to focus on classes and graduating so i know i'll be completely ready. after mcoa, however, i want to try broadway because i think that would be an amazing experience. eventually i'd like to get out to los angeles and hollywood, but i'm going to take it one step at a time.
are your parents supportive?
yes, but they don't really understand why i want to do what i want to do. of course they love me and they just want me to succeed but i think they wish my dreams were a little more realistic. and i understand that because this isn't an easy business to get into. all i can hope to do is give it my all and be proud of what i do eventually accomplish, whatever that may be.
