hi, my name is grace. i am nineteen years old and i come from the rainy (yet beautiful) town of seattle, washington. i've been singing as long as i can remember, and i've always loved the opera. my dream is to one day play christine in the phantom of the opera on broadway. i'm a pretty typical teenager and i try to stay out of trouble, but i can't guarantee anything. after all, i am living on the other side of the country away from my parents. who says i can't have a little fun?
if your friends were to describe you in five words, what would they be?
hmmmm, that's a hard one. i think the first thing they'd say would be 'talented'. i mean, i didn't get into mcoa with just my looks. i'm good at what i do and i'm proud of it. i think the second would be 'dedicated'. if i'm not doing typical teenage girl things, i'm usually in a practicing. the third would be 'trusting'. i'm the person that you can tell all your secrets to and you'd know that no one else would ever find out about them. just don't do that, though, because i don't need to know everything about your life. they're called secrets for a reason. the fourth would be 'carefree'. i'm in new york city with very light parental control so you can bet your ass that i am going to be living in the moment. my goal is to stay in new york until i die, but in case that doesn't happen, i still want to experience everything new york has to offer in case i have to leave. the last word would have to be 'fashionable'. i just like looking good all the time.
tell us about your parents.
i love my parents so much. my mom, janelle, is the head of pediatric surgery in one of the biggest teaching hospitals in washington. she saves lives and it's incredible. my dad, richard, is an architect, just like his dad who designed the space needle back in 1962. my dad has yet to create something so iconic, but i think that everything he designs is amazing. they raised me to enjoy my passion and to not get discouraged if i made mistakes along the way, and it's all thanks to them that i made it here to be honest.
what would you do if you didn't come to mcoa?
I think I'd like to be a surgeon, like my mom. Maybe not a pediatric surgeon, though, but maybe like a neurosurgeon or a heart surgeon. I don't mind blood and I actually find hospitals really fascinating. The only problem is you can't really sing in an operating room, so I would probably end up potentially killing patients because I'd be a distraction to myself or others.
favorite flavor of ice cream?
WHAT KIND OF A QUESTION IS THIS? THAT'S LIKE ASKING ME TO CHOOSE WHICH PARENT I LOVE MORE. I cannot answer this question on the grounds of discrimination to every ice cream flavor that I may not pick. It is just unfair and rude.
