madeline looked at rob with curiosity when he asked her to do a favor for him, smiling as he asked for her to whip nate's ass into shape as a dancer. he was right that his brother would need at least some dance skills in order to make it on broadway. pretty much anyone who was going to make it had to be a triple threat, at least in some respects. "you know i can whip anybody's ass into shape," she said lightly, grinning at him. madeline really did like nate a lot. he was a good kid and she would gladly help him out if he needed it, and helping him learn to dance was no exception.

it was true, rob hadn't had to work very hard at his craft. it just kind of came naturally to him, but that didn't mean he didn't have training. people at nyu and 12 years of experience on the stage had gotten him where he was today. and he loved his life and everything he'd been through. so what if he'd never won a tony award? that was beyond the point. he knew his brother wanted to be exactly like him, but better. and rob believed in his brother, but he had to tune down the cocky a little bit. "good. because that boy needs it and we all know it."

it wasn't any secret that rob's little brother needed a little bit of an attitude adjustment since he could get somewhat on the cocky side every now and then. but handling kids who thought they were better than they were, believed they didn't need any training because of their enormous talent, and had an ego the size of mars was what madeline dealt with on a daily basis. and rob did too, but nate was more likely to listen to her when it came to something like that than his big brother. "he's a good kid," madeline assured her boyfriend. "he might need a little bit of a reality check, but i think we all do now and then."

with a small, unconvinced laugh, as he looked down at his breakfast to eat, rob said, "i dunno about that, mad, but i hope for his sake that he grows up soon." nate was twenty years old. he wasn't a teenager anymore, nor was he a child. he needed to grow up sooner rather than later. the fifteen year age difference had always been odd, but he loved his baby brother and only wanted him to succeed. looking back up, he gave madeline a small smile. "but thank you. if anyone can get through his thick skull, i know you can. i mean, look at what you did to me," he joked.

madeline wouldn't say that nate was particularly immature or thought he was above anyone else the way some of the students at the conservatory certainly did. but he did have a little bit of a warped view of how the business and the world in general worked. but he had drive and talent, which madeline always believed could be honed and worked with even if he had to get a dose of reality every now and then. growing up took time, and madeline saw a lot of potential in nate to make it far if he learned to focus on the right things at the right time. she laughed when rob mentioned what she'd done with him by getting through his thick skull. "you're my masterpiece," she joked lightly and leaned over the table to kiss him.

with a bright smile, rob kissed madeline back as she called him her masterpiece. "so true," he agreed and leaned back to sit straight in his chair. "let me ask you something." he was going to get a little more serious here. as he cut up some more of his food, he went on. "are you happy? with everything in your life?" namely him, but he wasn't going to flat out ask that part of the question. this would probably motivate him to get the ring faster, depending on she answered the question.

madeline's brow furrowed when rob asked if she was happy. that had come totally out of left field, and it made her wonder if she'd done something to make him feel like she was unhappy. that wasn't the case at all and she never wanted rob to feel like it was. "of course," she answered, looking at him sincerely. "i've got a great job doing what i love, we've got this great place to live... and i have you," she emphasized the last part and gave him a small smile. madeline really was happy. it wasn't the way she pictured how her life would be ten years ago, but she wouldn't change one thing about it. she was in love, completely, for the first time in her life and had a job that made her feel needed and complete. if rob ever thought she felt anything less, she wouldn't forgive herself.

it made him feel even more confident to propose to her knowing that she was happy. he grinned and said, "good. i'd be worried if you weren't. because i'm certainly the happiest man on earth." madeline was smart, funny, beautiful, and, above all else, his soul mate. he loved her more than words could describe and it just made him that make more sure of himself in knowing that he wanted to propose. after six years, it was time. they weren't rushing into anything. six years wasn't exactly a rush. "do you think you'll ever go back to the stage?" he now asked out of plain curiosity.

madeline smiled when rob said that he was the happiest man on earth. she really did love him so much, and being reminded that she made him happy was always nice. he was the kindest, smartest, most thoughtful man she had ever met. not to mention, the most handsome. she got lucky the day she met him, and when he was interested in her as well. she couldn't imagine her life without him, nor did she want to. so she knew when the day came that he finally did propose, she was going to say yes and wasn't going to look back. this was who she was now, and she liked who she was. but when rob changed the subject and asked if she would ever go back to the stage, she was a little surprised since it had come out of nowhere. "i don't know," she answered honestly. "maybe someday. but i'm happy just teaching for now."

"me too. and as long as i'm here with you, then i'm happy too." he finished up his breakfast a few minutes later and then stood up to take her plate as well as his own. "go get ready for work. i'll be there in a second." he kissed her cheek and went to take care of the dishes before he had to get ready.
