so tell us about yourself
i'm jasper nicholas hastings, although i tend to go by jasper. i'm from kansas originally, but i've lived in a hell of a lot of places. my dad is a US army colonel and my mom doesn't work. we've lived all over the states cause of what my dad does for a living. i don't mind it though. i look up to my dad. i don't think i could be in the army to be honest, which probably upsets him because i'm not following in his footsteps but he's happy for me doing what i'm doing. but yeah, i've lived in kansas, florida, minnesota, arizona and texas before i came to mcoa. uhm... what else? well, i want to get into the film and television industry, obviously. it's why i'm here. i model a little to help pay for this place. as much as my mom tells me that her and dad will help with it, i kind of want to make my own money too, you know?
why mcoa?
like i said, i've travelled a lot. sometimes when my dad was away with work, my mom would take us on holidays and stuff. she's got family in new york, so it was kind of a given that we'd go there. that's how i found out about manhattan conservatory of the arts. during middle school and high school and stuff i was really into acting. i was in plays and productions and stuff. i never got the leads cause i was always moving around, but i got some pretty good roles, like mercutio in romeo and juliet. but anyway. i found mcoa and it looked like a great school, so when i got home i googled it and found out as much as i could about it. when i told my parents i wanted to go there, it was obvious that my dad was a little upset, but i think he knew it was coming. he's okay with it now. both of my parents are. plus, it's nice to be in the same place for four years, you know?
what did you want to be when you were younger?
how much younger? the first thing i remember wanting to do to be a firefighter but i was about four at the time. the first serious one was wanting to play tennis professionally. i was pretty good too, but then i injured myself when i was fourteen - dislocated my ankle, which ultimately threw that idea off of the table. it was upsetting, yeah, but i think that if it hadn't have happened, i wouldn't have started looking at acting as a serious option.
are you more of a dog person or cat person?
dog. hands down, i'm a dog person. i mean i've never had one, but when i was little my aunt here in new york had a dalmatian called spot. original, i know, but it wasn't me who named him. if you've seen marley & me... well spot was marley. crazy crazy dog but everyone loved him to death. i still go see them from time to time so i kind of class him as my pet. they don't mind.
where do you see yourself in five years?
well for starters i'll be 24... which sounds a lot scarier out loud than it did in my head. -laughs- anyway. i see myself still here, in new york city, as the star of some amazing television show or a really great movie franchise. i like to think that i'd have found the girl i want to spend the rest of my life with, but honestly... who knows? i mean i thought i had already but that plan kind of failed when she left this place... it's a crazy world right. i mean i might not even be here in five years... although i hope i am.
